John Newnham may only have played 116 games during his eight-season VFL career with Fitzroy, but for much of that time he was without doubt one of the most effective and accomplished rovers in the competition. Tough and quite stockily built, he was a superb ball winner, and his disposal skills were first rate. He represented the VFL on seven occasions.
