Les Hawken was a tall (192cm), hefty (99kg) permanent back pocket who specialised in manning up on the opposing team’s resting ruckmen. He hailed from Trafalgar, and played 65 VFL games for Hawthorn from 1970 to 1974, kicking three goals. He lined up in his customary back pocket position for the Hawks in their 1971 grand final defeat of St Kilda. He rounded off his career in the NWFU with Cooee.
