Mick Grambeau commenced his senior football career with Sandringham in the VFA, playing 61 games and scoring 38 goals for the club from 1948 to 1951. A follower, he was selected to represent the association at the 1950 Brisbane carnival.
In 1952 he joined North Melbourne, where he proved a solid performer in the main. However, in 1955 following a loss to lowly St Kilda Grambeau and team mate Laurie Icke were unceremoniously sacked, with no reason being given. Widespread protests followed and the pair were eventually reinstated, albeit only after signing a declaration to the effect that the committee’s decision to dismiss them had been justified. At the end of the season Grambeau sought a clearance to St Kilda and when this was refused he joined Ganmain in New South Wales. His time with the shinboners had seen him play 56 games and kick 53 goals.
The 1960 season saw Grambeau make a fleeting return to original club Sandringham where he added a final three VFA games and four goals to his respective career tallies. His son Shane was a footballer of note in the VFA, VFL and SANFL.
