Originally from Colac-Coragulac Peter Foster was recruited by Fitzroy but found it hard to break into the team, playing a total of just 7 games in 1980-1-2. The 1983 season found him at Footscray where initially he once again found it difficult to establish himself. However, after being given time to develop he emerged as an imposing, formidable key position player who played for Victoria in 1987, 1988 and 1989 and finished fifth in the Brownlow Medal voting in 1988. As a centre half forward he deployed his considerable aerial skills to good effect by either taking telling marks or bringing the ball to ground for the benefit of the Bulldogs smalls. Club best and fairest in 1990 Peter Foster played 163 V/AFL games and kicked 56 goals for Footscray between 1983 and 1993. He also represented Australia in 2 International Rules test matcheds against Ireland.
