After playing for Port Melbourne in the VFA Ron Fisher spent time with both South Melbourne and Footscray, without playing a senior game with either club. In 1933 he commenced with St Kilda and, after managing just half a dozen senior games in his debut season, he developed into a mainstay of the side. Of hefty (188cm, 97kg) build he was a formidable ruckmen who knew how to deploy his weight to good effect and was useful when resting up forward. Between 1933 and 1938 he played 82 VFL games for the Saints and kicked 71 goals. He coached Ararat in 1939 and 1940.
