Known as ‘Man Mountain Fountain’, St Kilda’s Roy Fountain was, at 188cm and 96kg, an imposing physical specimen who boasted above average football skills. Playing mostly as a ruckman, he used his weight and strength to good effect, almost always fairly, and he marked and kicked superbly. He won the Saints’ best and fairest award in 1939, and all told played 70 VFL games and scored 44 goals for the club from 1938 to 1943 and in 1946-7.
