Steven Taubert was a ruckman who could also play as a tall forward as well as in the back pocket. He was not quick, and his kicking was unreliable, but he had plenty of determination and grit, and did not readily lower his colours. He was at Richmond from 1974 to 1976 but found it difficult to break into what was one of the strongest sides in the land at the time, and only managed 15 VFL appearances and 14 goals. He fared somewhat better at Essendon, where he played 64 games and scored 30 goals between 1977 and 1981. His final port of call was Sydney where he displayed some of the best form of his career towards the end of his four season, 44 game, 26 goal stint. After departing the VFL scene he captain-coached Sydney club St George to a runners-up spot in 1987.
