Vince Irwin was a member of Essendon’s famed ‘mosquito fleet’ which helped propel the club to back to back premiership successes in 1923-4. He was a valuable player in that he could rove or occupy a set position, to equally telling effect. From 1921 to 1927 he played 78 VFL games for the Dons and bagged 100 goals. Prior to joining the Essendon he had played in the VFA for North Melbourne.
Always a danger near goal, he was the Dons’ second top goal kicker in 1924, 1925 and 1926, and in one match in 1924 managed the quite astonishing feat of registering 10 goals. He represented Victoria in 1922, 1925 and 1926.
After leaving Essendon he played for Bendigo in 1928 and VFA club Oakleigh in 1929-30.
