David Kappler was a superb servant of the South Adelaide Football Club for 12 seasons, during which he played 292 senior league games. He also represented South Australia four times. Recruited, like his younger brother Darren, from Morphett Vale, he made his league debut in 1982 and gradually developed into a key member of the side. Unlike Darren, who made the move to Victoria, David remained loyal to the Panthers throughout his career, which was highlighted by Knuckey Cup wins in 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1991.
