Jack Knowles was a talented full back who was a particularly good spoiler and who gained substantial distances with his drop kicks. He played in Essendon’s 1952 reserves premiership-winning team and was at full back for the seniors in the 1957 grand final loss to Melbourne. His Bombers career spanned the years 1952 to 1958 and saw him play 78 VFL games without registering a single goal.
