After playing 41 VFL games for Fitzroy from 1977 to 1981 and a couple for Richmond in 1982 Noel Mugavin headed west where he joined West Perth. Playing almost exclusively as a defender, his WAFL career comprised 61 games from 1983 to 1987. There were few frills about his game, but he had the happy knack of being able to contain even the most potentially damaging of opposition forwards.
