Originally from South Australia where he played three seasons with the great Norwood team of the mid 1880s, 'Paddy' Knox became a noteworthy figure in the early history of the game in Western Australia. Knox only had a comparatively brief senior playing career, but it was laced with achievement. In seven seasons with Unions/Fremantle he played a total of 65 games, and was involved in no fewer than half a dozen premierships, four of them as club captain. He was the top goalkicker in the WAFA in 1893, albeit with only 10 goals. After retiring as a player he continued his involvement in football by serving the Association in a variety of administrative roles.
