Recruited from St Bernard’s, back pocket specialist Paul Hamilton gave reliable service to Essendon in 105 games between 1986 and 1992, meaning that his career precisely spanned the seven season gap between Bomber premierships. He did, however, play in the losing grand final of 1990 against Collingwood. There was nothing pretty about Hamilton’s style of play but he was undeniably effective.
