Having played Teal Cup football for South Australia Paul Martin made his SANFL debut with South Adelaide in 1984. Tall and lean at 182cm and 75kg he also had pace to burn and was adept at getting to the fall of the ball. Normally deployed as a wingman, he played 109 games for the Panthers and scored 73 goals between 1982 and 1986. In his second season he was mooted as a possible state candidate but in the event failed to make the cut.
