In 1994 Quenton Leach, who had just won Claremont’s fairest and best award, was included in Fremantle’s inaugural AFL squad of players. He gave the Dockers fine service, initially as a strong running defender, and later as a half forward. Between 1995 and 1998 he played 56 games and kicked 26 goals for the club. On one memorable occasion in 1997 he kicked the winning goal of a match against Brisbane after the siren.
The WAFL/Westar Rules phases of Leach’s career saw him play 61 games and boot nine goals for Claremont from 1991 to 1994 and in 1998, followed by 19 games and six goals for Subiaco in 1999. Highlights included playing in Claremont’s 1993 premiership-winning team and representing Western Australia in a win over South Australia at Football Park in 1994.
