Steve Hargrave was a member of Perth’s 1976 and 1977 premiership teams, and his coach at the time, Ken Armstrong, said of him later “his appearance made you think he was lazy and needed a bomb under him, but he always had time to do things”. Mainly deployed across half forward, he played 62 WANFL games and kicked 61 goals for the Demons between 1976 and 1979. He also represented Western Australia in all three of the state’s matches in 1977. Hargrave later spent the 1982 season with Footscray in the VFL but only played a couple of games.
