Terry Keays rose up through the ranks at Collingwood before making his senior VFL debut in 1987. A utility, he found it hard to hold down a regular place in the seniors, and his four season stint with the club saw him play just 20 games and score 11 goals.

The 1991 season found him at Richmond where he would play mostly as a forward initially before reverting to a defensive role in his last few games. His two season stint with the Tigers saw him play 18 matches and kick 29 goals. He played almost as often with the reserves, winning a best and fairest at that level in 1992.

In 1993 Keays joined Frankston in the VFA where he played 19 games and, with 55 goals, was the club’s top goal kicker for the year. His final port of call was NTFL side Latrobe, where he was installed as captain-coach in 1994. He played 20 games for the season and headed the competition’s goal kicking list with 119 goals, which included a club record 16 in one match. He managed to get the Demons into the grand final, but they lost to Ulverstone by five goals.
