From Mentone, Alan Carr was a resolute and hardy ruckman who gave solid service to North Melbourne in 66 VFL games between 1959 and 1966, kicking 13 goals. In 1968 he played four games and scored five goals as captain-coach of VFA second division side Frankston. In a match against Box Hill he sustained an eye injury which necessitated having the eye surgically removed, bringing his career to a sad conclusion.
