A solid full back from Rupanyup, Alf Sampson joined Fitzroy in 1935 and went on to play 60 VFL games and score four goals in four separate stints, ending in 1946. From 1947 to 1951 he added 99 VFA games for Williamstown, including the 1949 grand final defeat of Oakleigh, and the loss to Brighton in the previous year’s flag decider. He failed to register a goal with the Seagulls.
