After playing his early football with Carlton - indeed he kicked a goal with his very first kick on debut - Bob Crow was transformed into a lively, strong marking half back who provided plenty of rebound. Between 1954 and 1964 he played 128 VFL games and kicked 62 goals. He was on a half back flank in the 1962 grand final which the Blues lost to Essendon, and was chosen in the Victorian squad for as match against South Australia the same year.

After leaving Carlton, Crow played briefly for VFA first division club Dandenong.
