After attending Scotch College in Melbourne Bob Strachan played senior football for Box Hill, from where he was recruited by Collingwood. A handy follower, his 52 VFL games for Collingwood between 1904 and 1910 included the losing challenge final of 1905 against Fitzroy, when he was high among the vanquished Magpies’ best players. Eminently capable of proving a thorn in the side of the opposition whilst resting in a forward pocket, he bagged the creditable tally of 27 goals during his career.
