After playing briefly for both North Hobart and Clarence, as well as for Tasmania at the 1988 bicentennial carnival in Adelaide, Bradley Plain joined Essendon and made a strong initial impression. Dangerous near goal, he registered tallies of 27 and 28 goals in 1989 and 1990, on one occasion bagging eight in a game against Sydney. However, injuries eventually dulled his impact, and he seldom recaptured the fine form of his early seasons. When Essendon went top in 1993 with a grand final victory over Collingwood Plain was injured and unavailable for selection. In 1994, after 46 games and 89 goals for the Bombers, he crossed to Collingwood. However, he failed to settle, and after managing just nine games and six goals over two seasons, he was traded to North Melbourne in exchange for Adrian McAdam. His stint at North was even more disappointing than his time with the Magpies, and he retired after adding just a single game and one goal to his overall career tallies.
