Carl Steinfort was a better than serviceable on-baller who often operated as a run with player, frequently to match-defining effect. He was regarded as a key player at Geelong for much of his 65 game 19 goal stint with the club from 1996 to 2000. He then spent the 2001 and 2002 seasons with Collingwood where, despite showing excellent form in the latter season’s finals series, including the grand final loss to Brisbane, he somewhat surprisingly opted to retire aged just 25. His time with the Magpies saw him add 27 AFL games and seven goals to his respective career tallies.
