Chris Gowans has been a key factor in Central District’s emergence as the SANFL’s predominant force since the turn of the century. A combative and purposeful on-baller, he was a member of the Bulldogs’ 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 premiership teams. In winning the Jack Oatey Medal after the Grand Final triumphs of 2003 against West Adelaide and 2007 against North Adelaide he became the first, and so far only, dual winner of the award. Prior to arriving at Centrals in 2000 Gowans had played reserves football with St Kilda.
