Recruited by Footscray from Yallourn, Colin Dell made his senior VFL debut in 1971, and went on to play 68 games and score 10 goals over the ensuing seven seasons. He was a competent defender, but never really managed to nail down a regular spot in the seniors. He spent the 1978-9 seasons with VFA first division side Brunswick, but only played seven games and kicked seven goals.
