Famously labelled ‘pathetic’ by Adelaide coach Malcolm Blight in 1997 David Pittman was actually a fine ruckman and occasional centre half back who gave the Crows commendable service in 131 AFL games between 1992 and 1999 during which he kicked 34 goals. Prior to that as well as simultaneously with his AFL career at times he played 69 SANFL games and kicked 16 goals for Norwood. Somewhat ironically, one of the highlight’s of Pittman’s career came at the conclusion of the very season in which he had been slated by Blight as he was a key contributor to the Crows’ grand final defeat of St Kilda. He also played in the 1998 premiership team.

After retiring as a player early in the 1999 season David Pittman served as a ruck coach with Port Adelaide for a time and also engaged in some radio work.
