Originally from South Mildura Doug Cox joined West Torrens in 1979 and played 66 SANFL games for the club in two separate stints. In between he played for St Kilda (36 games, 1981-2) and Essendon (3 games in 1984). His transfer to St Kilda was controversial because Mildura lay in Richmond’s zone and so the Tigers protested. The League responded by docking the Saints eight premiership points but later in the year the rules governing transfers were quietly amended to make St Kilda’s signing of Cox legal, wherupon the eight points were restored.
