Elkin Reilly was a hefty aboriginal ruckman and defender who had a noteworthy career in country football, which included the winning of two Mail Medals, prior to sampling the ‘big time’ with South Melbourne. From 1962 to 1966 he played 51 VFL games and kicked two goals for South whilst forging an effective partnership with champion rover Bob Skilton. A ruptured appendix brought the curtain down on Reilly’s VFL career, but he continued to play in various country competitions for several more seasons.
