Recruited locally by Essendon, Fred Scott was a talented, high leaping half forward and full forward of whom the only major criticism would be that he kicked insufficient goals. He booted a total of 25 in 32 VFL games for the Same Old between 1899 and 1901. After not being selected in Essendon’s 1901 grand final team Scott was cleared to Carlton where he played 17 games and scored 11 goals from 1902 until one round into the 1904 season, when he transferred to Brunswick in the VFA, going on to finish his playing career with just three appearances and a couple of goals for that club.
