A highly capable centre half forward and occasional ruckman, Horrie Webster started out with Launceston-based club City and during his time there represented Tasmania at both the 1908 Melbourne and 1911 Adelaide carnivals. He embarked on a VFL career with South Melbourne in 1913, playing 17 games and kicking 13 goals for the year. In 1914 he crossed to Essendon and over the course of that season and the next added 23 VFL games and 13 goals to his respective career tallies.
