Keith Browning joined South Melbourne from South Melbourne Tech and gradually made his way up through the grades, starting with the thirds. A centreman and occasional half forward flanker, he took his senior VFL bows in round 10 of the 1951 season, the first of six consecutive games he was to play for the year. In subsequent seasons he became a regular senior player and when he retired in 1954 he had made 53 senior appearances and scored four goals. He later captain-coached Latrobe Valley Football League club Trafalgar for a couple of seasons. His son Mark (profiled below) later played for both the Swans and Hobart.
