After commencing his VFL career with North Melbourne as a forward Ken Dean became a much more effective and consistent performer when shifted to a back pocket. He played 159 VFL games and kicked 17 goals for the Kangas between 1956 and 1967. He coached VFA club Sunshine in 1968-9.
