Originally from Heatherton, Max Rippon struggled to make his mark at both Fitzroy (two games, no goals, 1943) and South Melbourne (four games, no goals, 1944) before coming into his own at St Kilda. A vibrant, tenacious and sometimes spectacular wingman, he was good enough to be chosen to play for Victoria against South Australia in 1946. From 1945 to 1947 he played 41 VFL games for the Saints and booted four goals. He finished his playing career with eight appearances for VFA side Brighton in 1948.
