Originally from Underbool, Max Crow was a long kicking, strong marking key position forwardor ruckman who enjoyed a fine, 12-season VFL career with three clubs. In 1974 and from 1976 to 1982 he played 136 games and kicked 139 goals for Essendon, topping the Bombers' goal kicking list in 1977 with 38 goals. He transferred to St Kilda in 1983 and promptly won the club's best and fairest award. His three-season stint with the Saints yielded 40 games and 53 goals. Crow finished his league career at Footscray, where he played a dozen games and booted 18 goals.
