Originally from Smeaton, Max Spittle was an exceptionally pacy wingman who was one of Melbourne’s best players in the winning 1948 grand final replay against Essendon. From 1947 to 1950 he played 50 VFL games and scored one goal for the Demons. After leaving Melbourne he joined Ballarat Football League club Redan whom he helped achieve a premiership in 1952. He retained an obvious love of the Melbourne Football Club throughout his long life, which finally ended on 12th June 2015, just one day shy of his 95th birthday.
