Originally from amateur club De La Salle Paul Cooper began his senior career with Hawthorn brightly only to be beset by injury problems later on which, among other things, meant that he missed the chance to play in the Hawks’ 1991 premiership-winning team. Between 1990 and 1996 he played 81 AFL games and kicked 9 goals. A defender in the main, he was tough and energetic in his approach, and when at his best could be relied upon to amass impressive disposal numbers.
