Lining up mostly at full forward Renato Serafini played 81 VFL games and scored 117 goals for Fitzroy from 1971 to midway through the 1977 season. He was the Lions’ top goal kicker in 1975 with 34 goals. In 1977-8 he added seven games and six goals for Carlton before departing the VFL scene in 1979 and joining a Frankston side which was taking its bows in the VFA’s top tier. His tally of 95 goals that year saw him top the first division list after the home and away rounds but two players overtook him during the finals.
In 1982 he crossed to Coburg in pursuit of higher remuneration. He spent two seasons with the club, playing 22 games and scoring 116 goals.
