For most of his career with Norwood Sam Smart alternated between seniors and reserves more or less equally. From 1992 to 1996 he played 53 senior games and scored 18 goals. He was centre half forward in the Redlegs’ loss to the Eagles in the 1993 grand final. Drafted by Carlton in 1996, having previously been on Adelaide’s list, he played just one game for the Blues in 1997 before being de-listed.
