Melbourne fought to obtain Sean Charles’ signature for three years before achieving their aim. He boasted exceptional skills but was prevented by injury from displaying his best form consistently. Nevertheless, his time with the Demons was the most productive of his career. From 1992 to 1997 he played 47 games and scored 60 goals before being traded to Carlton. His stint with the Blues came to an end almost before it had started when he suffered a compound fracture of his leg during the opening quarter of his first match. He later made a brief return to AFL football when he played eight games and kicked six goals for St Kilda in 2000. His last port of call was Springvale in the VFL where he added a final four appearances in 2001.
