After struggling to make the grade at South Melbourne, where he managed just a single League game in 1908, Tom Clancy hit his straps at his next port of call, Carlton. A stylish and purposeful wingman, he counted the losing grand final of 1910 against Collingwood among his 74 senior appearances. However, when the Blues next contested a grand final in 1914 Clancy was absent having fallen out with the club’s coach, Norm Clark, a stern disciplinarian.
Clancy crossed to Carlton’s arch rivals Collingwood where he added a final 18 VFL games in 1915-16.
Prior to embarking on a League career Tom Clancy had played with Williamstown in the VFA and Leopold in the Geelong Association.
