Carlton’s best player on Saturday was Vin Brown who revealed great dash and sound judgment in defence of his goal against taller opponents. Brown has played in many positions with the Blues, and in all with credit.¹

With pace to burn, Vin Brown was ideally suited to a wing, which was where he played his early football with Carlton. Later, however, he was transformed into a fine defender. Between 1941 and 1948 he played 117 VFL games and kicked four goals for the Blues. He was at full back in the victorious 1945 grand final against South Melbourne and on a half back flank two years later when Essendon was bested.

Vin Brown’s father Ted Brown (profiled above) was also a dual premiership player with Carlton.
