A product of future Metropolitan Amateur Football Association club Caulfield (not to be confused with the later club of that name which competed in the VFA), Viv Randall was recruited by Hawthorn in 1934 and went on to enjoy a memorable, if brief, VFL career. A classy wingman, he was acknowledged as one of the best players in that position in the league, a status affirmed by his selection to represent Victoria on two occasions.
In 1939, after 73 games and four goals for the Mayblooms, Randall crossed to VFA side Camberwell, where he played 22 games and kicked nine goals in 1939-40 to round off his playing career.
