Originally from Lemnos, Wayne Delmenico played 31 VFL games and kicked one goal for Melbourne between 1972 and 1975. He then spent the 1975/6 NTFL season playing for North Darwin, where he was spotted by South Fremantle and signed. He proved himself a decided acquisition. By the time he retired at the end of the 1983 season he had added another 128 games and 29 goals to his respective career tallies besides producing an impressive display in the 1980 grand final defeat of Swan Districts. Tough and hard working, his approach and demeanour were in stark contrast to many of his more flamboyantly talented team mates.

Delmenico represented his adopted state of Western Australia in a win over South Australia at Subiaco Oval in 1981. After retiring as a footballer he served for a time as president of the South Fremantle Football Club Past Players and Officials Association.
