Bennett ..... has all the qualities that go to make a champion. He is fast, an excellent mark, and a good, but not always accurate, kick. He has great understanding with his rovers and half forwards, and leads to their passes with split-second precision.¹
Peter Bennett was a useful full forward who topped St Kilda's goal-kicking list on five occasions. However, he retired prematurely from football in order to concentrate on his other sporting love, water polo, at which he was an Australian Olympic representative. Bennett played 103 VFL games for the Saints in 1944 and from 1947 to 1954, kicking 258 goals. He twice booted eight goals in a match.
