Smaller than many opposing ruckmen at 196cm and 89kg, Darren Bartsch compensated to a degree by virtue of his pace, adaptability and formidable leap. He played precisely 50 SANFL games and scored 28 goals for West Adelaide between 1988 and 1993. His appearances included the losing grand final of 1991 against North Adelaide. He crossed to Port Adelaide in 1994 and added 10 more games and two goals before retiring.
