Perth’s Doug Buckingham was a highly talented, mercurial young footballer who topped Perth’s goal kicking list in 1952 with 25 goals. He played 32 WANFL games, mostly on a half forward flank, between 1950 and 1953. However, at the age of just 19 his life was tragically cut short when he was killed in a workplace accident on 25th May 1953. The Perth Football Club’s annual award for the most outstanding young player is named in Doug Buckingham’s honour.
