In today’s big football game, Fred Batt (Claremont goalie) fought a thrilling duel with George Doig (East Fremantle goalsneak) - and for once Doig was worsted.¹
Fred Batt made his League debut for Claremont-Cottesloe in 1930 and by the time of his last appearance midway through the 1938 season he had played 119 games and kicked 35 goals for the club, which had by then dropped the world 'Cottesloe' from its name. Far and away the majority of his games were played at full back, in which position he had few peers in the competition. He was singularly unfortunate in that he lost his place in the team a few weeks before the finals series of 1938, at the end of which Claremont were crowned premiers.
