Gary Christie was a solidly built utility who gave fine service to two league clubs over the course of a thirteen season career. Never one to attract headlines he was simply a good, effective footballer who went about his work with a minimum of fuss. Recruited from Marion, Christie commenced with South Adelaide in 1982 and, after initially struggling to hold down a place in the team, ended up playing a total of 97 SANFL games in seven seasons with the Panthers. Crossing to Glenelg in 1988 he continued to produce useful, consistent football in another 101 games before retiring in 1993, but sadly for him he had timed the move badly as he missed the chance to play in the Bays’ 1985 and 1986 premiership teams.
