Gary Wagner was a fleet-footed rover cum wingman who won four Best and Fairest awards with Sandgate in the QAFL. A product of Sandgate High School, Wagner played 214 games over 15 years and was a key member of the club’s successful 1970s era, which included four premierships. He also represented Queensland many times through the 1970s. Wagner took a famous mark at the Gabba as he soared above the pack with umpire Tom MacArthur at his feet. His son Scott was a Queensland Under 17s captain who lter played for the Brisbane Bears Reserves.
