First ruckman in Sturt’s 1940 grand final win over South Adelaide, Hartley Bagshaw was nothing like as audaciously skilled as his son, Paul, but was the epitome of rugged reliability. His Sturt career comprised 85 SANFL games, in which he scored two goals, from 1939 to 1941 and between 1944 and 1946. He also played for the Sturt-South Adelaide wartime combination.
